Community and Environment
Pāli is an ethical brand dedicated to contributing to society in a responsible, positive, and sustainable way.
Through dealing directly with our villages in Myanmar we are supporting the community and lifestyle of its villagers. All of our products are individually handwoven and our weavers work in the comfort of their own homes. We pay the weavers a fair price for their work, determined by weavers and the head of the village. Money is distributed fairly throughout the community and contributes to school supplies, roads, infrastructure and general living costs.
Baskets are woven from a combination of new, reused and recycled colourful pallet strapping. Recycled materials are not always available but we are continually working on new ways to make this more achievable.
Recycled strapping is made from plastic bottles and other plastics collected from gutters, streets and beaches. This not only helps clean up the local environment, but provides a small income for collectors. Strapping factories are local in Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand.
The basket weaving process is done completely by hand.
Each basket is designed for longevity: durable, waterproof and easy to clean.
Baskets can be fully recycled at the end of their life when recycled correctly. There is more information on our 'Recycling' page, under the 'Our Story' tab.
We use Sendle for shipping and deliveries, a 100% Carbon Neutral company, believing that courier and sending shouldn't have to cost the earth. Sendle has partnered with South Pole Group to offset the emissions of every parcel that is picked up and delivered with Sendle. Each year, they offset carbon emissions through planting trees which helps preserve the habitat of endangered native species. Other projects help reduce emissions of greenhouse gases around the world. For more information on Sendle's projects.
We use only reused and recycled boxes for shipping and urge our customers to further recycle these boxes. Packing tape is recyclable with the box and labels are fully biodegradable. We aim to minimise our impact on the environment as much as we can.
